How did you become a recruiter?

I fell into it by accident! I started recruiting as one facet of my role, I had a unique hiring situation where I needed people to move to the middle of Southeast Alaska for the summer. When I was figuring out my next career move, I realized connecting with people and getting them excited about a role was what I enjoyed most.

 

I jumped into a full-service firm doing volume staffing. It was a wild rodeo but super fun! From there, I moved over to the permanent placement side, working in engineering and manufacturing. I was eager to understand retained search and moved to a boutique firm where I worked on retained searches for executives in mining and aerospace. Now, I’m at Ambrion as an Executive Recruiter specializing in Accounting + Finance!

 
 

What do you love about recruiting?

I love listening to what hiring managers are asking for (what’s said but also what’s unsaid). Finding that perfect match is the best feeling! It’s so fun to be a part of people’s career stories and their next moves. I get a real kick out of calling someone and confidently telling them this is the right next step for their career.

 

I’m part match-maker, part broker, especially when recruiting for technical roles. I really enjoy representing up-and-coming leaders with non-traditional backgrounds who bring fresh perspectives to companies.

 
 

What can candidates and clients expect when partnering with you?

I really value the human interaction part of my job. For candidates, this is a big decision with long-term impacts, so I never push someone into a role they don’t feel is a good move for them. I like to tell candidates exactly what they’re getting into. I want them to go in with their eyes open, with no surprises on either side. I’m a big believer that everyone needs data to make informed decisions.

 

Genuineness is a big priority for me. I provide a safe space for candidates and hiring managers to share things they might not say in an interview. I know hiring managers are real people trying to solve problems, and I thrive in authentic situations where I can make a really good match for everyone involved.

 
 

What are your personal interests outside of work?

I love to cook, especially figuring out how to make things from scratch! I’ve been baking sourdough bread lately and using the discard to make crackers. I also love watching classic movies like “Charade” with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.

 

I’m very outdoors-y – I love a good hike, camping, and just being outside. I grew up in California and lived in Alaska for a decade. I have a cute chocolate lab named Alco that will eat anything he can get his paws on, a cute husband, and two cute kids!
